February 13th Driver of the Week

Despite cold temperatures, a number of drivers in various Go-Kart classes thronged David Hicken and James Wofford’s Callahan Speedway during races February 13, 2010.
Travis Higgs, 17 years old, is the newest Driver of the Week.  Travis is in the 12th grade at Jacksonville’s Arlington Country Day Private School.

He drives #32 and has been racing Go-Karts for about five months.  Travis has no plans to “graduate” to other racing levels and plans to continue with Go-Karts for some time.

A pitcher for his school’s baseball team, Travis hopes to be picked by a major league team during draft season this June.  His team will be playing against West Nassau High School in Callahan, FL,  this Tuesday.

His father, Jack Higgs, works for Jacksonville Electric Association (JEA) and his mother, Sheila, works for Patterson Dental Supply, also in Jacksonville.

February 6 Driver of the Week

Buddy Thompson, who drives Go-Kart “02,” was selected as the Callahan Speedway Driver of the Week on February 6, 2010.  He’s been driving Go-Karts for about eight months, having previously driven Hobby Stock for about five years.

“Clay tracks are more fun to race on than paved tracks,” Buddy said.  One of the other reasons he likes the Callahan track is its location.

Buddy works as a mechanic for First Student, Inc., “North America’s leading school bus transportation services company.” First Student buses transport more than four million children to and from school each and every day throughout the United States.

He and his wife, the former Charlotte Honshell, and their eight year old son, Dalton, live in Duval County.   Dalton attends Dinsmore Elementary.

Other Winners may be found on Go-Karts 1, 3, 4, 5.
