RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFRNS) -- The 37th annual Air Force Assistance Fund “Commitment to Caring” campaign is under way through May 7.
Air Force retirees can still give to the fund through a one-time gift of cash or check, or by payroll deduction from retired pay.
“The AFAF has a long tradition of providing critical assistance to members of our Air Force family,” said Bill D’Avanzo, Air Force fund raising chief. “Whether they become victims of natural disasters or endure the personal hardships of deployments, accidents, illness, aging or death, these charities are there to provide fast and reliable help.”
People can contribute to:
--The Air Force Aid Society, which provides Airmen and their families worldwide with emergency financial assistance, education assistance, and an array of base-level community-enhancement programs. More information is available at www.afas.org.
--The Air Force Enlisted Village, which supports Teresa Village in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Bob Hope Village in Shalimar, Fla., near Eglin Air Force Base. The fund provides homes and financial assistance to widows and widowers of retired enlisted people 55 and older. Hawthorn House (also in Shalimar) provides assisted living for residents requiring more assistance than others, including 24-hour nursing care. More information is available at www.afenlistedwidows.org.
--The Air Force Village, which supports Air Force Village I and II in San Antonio, a life-care community for retired officers, spouses, widows or widowers and family members. The Air Force Village Web site is www.airforcevillages.com.
--The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, which provides rent and financial assistance to widows and widowers of officer and enlisted retirees in their homes and communities through financial grants of assistance. The LeMay Foundation Web site is www.lemay-foundation.org/.
Retirees can give through one of the following ways:
-- Visit the Retiree Activities Office on any major Air Force installation. Complete an Air Force Form 2561 and donate by cash, check or payroll deduction from your Air Force retired pay;
-- Mail a contribution (cash/check/money order) and contributors’ form that is available online at https://www.afassistancefund.org/docs/ContributionForm-retiree-2copies.xls, to Air Force Assistance Fund, HQ AFPC/DPSIMF, 550 C Street West Ste 37, Randolph AFB TX 78150-4739;
-- Mail contributions directly to the affiliate(s) of choice at the addresses in the campaign brochures, also found online at www.afassistancefund.org. Contributions mailed directly to affiliates are not counted toward any installation or Air Force goals or totals;
-- Mail completed Payroll Deduction Plan form directly to DFAS, Cleveland Center, ATTN: Code FR, P.O. Box 99191, Cleveland OH 44199-1126.
“We really prefer that you give at your local base Retiree Activities Office, if you live near one, so they receive credit on their campaign toward their installation’s goal,” Mr. D'Avanzo explained.
