Let's Get Walking
Angela Spears, Nassau County Sheriff Public Information Officer
Get your walking or running shoes on! You can take part in the “Cops and Kids” 5K Walk/Run
sponsored by the Nassau County Sheriff's Office. The inaugural event will take place on April
10, 2010 at Fort Clinch State Park, 2601 Atlantic Avenue, in Fernandina Beach. The event will
start at 9 a.m.
Participants will be able to walk or run through the scenic park. Anyone can participate. Prizes
will be awarded to the top four male and female runners. The registration fee is $25 per person.
It’s $35 per person on the day of the event. All of the proceeds benefit the “Cops and Kids”
program.
“Cops and Kids” helps disadvantaged youth in Nassau County. They can shop for Christmas
presents with a deputy and get school supplies throughout the year. Sheriff Tommy Seagraves
started the program in 2006. Deputies have been able to help more than 850 children through
donations from the community.
“Cops and Kids” is part of the Sheriff’s Foundation of Nassau County, Inc. The goal of the
foundation is to promote public safety through education, public awareness and charitable
activities.
You can pick up a registration form for the 5K Walk/Run at the Nassau County Sheriff's Office
in Yulee (76001 Bobby Moore Circle), the YMCA in Fernandina Beach (1915 Citrona Dr.) or
Anytime Fitness in Callahan (450077 State Road 200).
Here are some of the scenes they might see along Fort Clinch's roadways and beaches.
